Egidijus KŪRIS
President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania
Egidijus Kūris was born on 26 October
1961 in Vilnius. After he had, in 1984, graduated from the Faculty of Law, Vilnius
University, he continued there as a teacher. In 1984-1994 he was a teacher and
later an associate professor of the Department of Theory and History of State
and Law of the Faculty of Law, Vilnius University. In 1988 he finished his post-graduate
studies in Vilnius University and maintained his doctoral thesis. In 1990-1991
he was an advisor to the Commission of State Restoration of the Supreme Council-Reconstituent
Seimas. He was a member of the Working Group of the Provisional Commission for
Preparation of the Draft Constitution. In 1992-1999 he was Director of the Institute
of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University. In 1993-1997
he was an assistant to the President of the Constitutional Court. In 1995-1998
he was President of the Lithuanian Political Science Association. In March 1999
he was appointed a justice of the Constitutional Court, while in April 2002
he was appointed President of the Constitutional Court.
E. Kūris is a professor, holds a PhD in law.
